You better shape up, Grease returns

GREASE is slated to return to Australian stages with a new production scheduled to debut at Melbourne’s Her Majesty’s Theatre in January 2024.

Producer John Frost, spearheading this multi-million dollar endeavor, emphasized the all-Australian creative team behind the production.

With a promised star-studded cast yet to be unveiled, GREASE aims to reclaim its position as the quintessential party musical, delivering an electrifying experience for audiences.

The production boasts dazzling costumes and features the well-known songs from the movie, including “Summer Nights,” “You’re The One That I Want,” and “Greased Lightnin’.”

The Daily Mirror in the UK has described GREASE as “fast, furious and thrilling, an injection of raw energy… and fun, fun, fun!”

Lord Mayor Sally Capp of Melbourne highlighted the city’s reputation in the world of musicals and live entertainment, expressing anticipation for the national premiere.

“We can’t wait to roll out the red carpet for the spectacular national premiere of GREASE, which is set to draw huge crowds in 2024,” she said.

GREASE, originating from its Broadway premiere and the highly successful movie adaptation, holds a place in history as the longest-running musical on Broadway when it concluded its 3,388-performance run in 1980.

The recent Pink Ladies series on Paramount has expanded GREASE into the most extensive cinematic universe derived from a stage musical.

Casting announcements for the Australian production are pending.
