Superstar tenor to make Australian debut

The illustrious international tenor Juan Diego Flórez is set to grace Australian stages with his unparalleled vocal prowess in a series of three special recitals this November.

Presented by Castiglione Arts and Culture, these performances mark the first time the operatic sensation will enchant audiences in Australia.

The exclusive tour kicks off at Arts Centre Melbourne’s Hamer Hall on Thursday, November 2, followed by a performance at the iconic Sydney Opera House on Sunday, November 5, and culminating in a recital at Llewellyn Hall in Canberra on Tuesday, November 7.

Juan Diego Flórez, a global operatic superstar, boasts an impressive career that includes performances at every major international opera house.

Recognised by the BBC as one of the finest opera singers of all time, Flórez has garnered acclaim for his expressive voice and remarkable agility, particularly in the bel canto and French Romantic repertoire.

The tenor, hailing from Lima, Peru, is eager to perform in Australia, a country close to his heart as his wife and mother of his two children is Australian.

“I look forward to singing for the first time in Melbourne, Sydney, and Canberra. I am very glad to meet the audience in Australia and present a beautiful program in recital,” he said.

Flórez’s musical journey is diverse, having found success as the lead singer and songwriter of a rock band before embarking on his opera career.

His upbringing in Lima, Peru, exposed him to a range of musical genres, from Peruvian folk music to Elvis Presley.

Flórez attributes his versatility to these early experiences, noting that “any music that is well-structured—whether it is jazz, opera, or pop—is good music.”

Beyond his musical career, Flórez is the founder of Sinfonía por el Perú, an inclusive social project that uses orchestras and choirs to empower vulnerable children and adolescents through music.

Recognised as a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador and honored with the World Economic Forum’s Crystal Award, Flórez continues to champion social change through his musical endeavors.

Following his Australian tour, Flórez is set to perform internationally, including at Milan’s prestigious Teatro alla Scala (La Scala), widely acclaimed as Europe’s greatest opera house.

Opera aficionados and music lovers are invited to witness this historic event and experience the awe-inspiring talent of Juan Diego Flórez, a true musical icon, as he takes the Australian stage for an unforgettable series of recitals.
