Sizzling Chicago cast announced

The cast for the new Australian tour of the beloved musical CHICAGO has been revealed, promising a sizzling and star-studded lineup.

Tickets for the tour go on pre-sale tomorrow,, with general public tickets available from Thursday, August 17, in Melbourne.

The renowned musical, described as “the sharpest, slickest show on the block” by The Times UK, is set to grace the stage of Her Majesty’s Theatre in Melbourne from March 2024, part of a national tour.

Heading the cast is Zoë Ventoura, a favorite in the Australian acting scene, who will portray the powerful and glamorous Velma Kelly.

Lucy Maunder, currently starring as Mrs. Banks in Mary Poppins, joins as the irreverent and determined Roxie Hart.

Anthony Warlow, a leading figure in Australian theatre, takes on the role of the cunning and charismatic lawyer Billy Flynn.

The cast also includes Peter Rowsthorn as Roxie’s husband, Amos, and Asabi Goodman as the tough and sassy prison warden Matron ‘Mama’ Morton, known for her previous role as Motormouth Maybelle in Hairspray.

Producer John Frost expressed his excitement about the assembled cast, highlighting the return of Anthony Warlow to the stage and the addition of talented performers like Zoë Ventoura and Lucy Maunder.

CHICAGO, the longest-running show currently playing on Broadway, is celebrated for its scorching hot masterpiece with a glittering score that includes iconic numbers such as “All That Jazz,” “Cell Block Tango,” and “Razzle Dazzle.” Created by John Kander, Fred Ebb, and legendary choreographer Bob Fosse, the musical has garnered six Tony Awards, two Olivier Awards, and a Grammy.

Described as “sexy, pin-sharp, and near flawless” by the Sydney Morning Herald, and “Broadway’s most electrifying show” by Entertainment Weekly, CHICAGO is set against the backdrop of the 1920s, telling the story of Roxie Hart’s desperate attempts to avoid conviction for the murder of her lover.
