Limited Dogfight season at Chapel off Chapel

In the wake of their recent triumphs with productions like American Idiot and The Wizard of Oz, Theatrical, a celebrated new musical theatre company, is set to captivate audiences with their latest offering, Dogfight.

The highly anticipated production, featuring Academy Award-winning composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul’s musical prowess, is scheduled for a strictly limited season at Chapel Off Chapel from November 9 to 26, 2023.

Directed by the renowned Pip Mushin, the creative force behind Midnight and The Book of Mormon, Dogfight promises to be a compelling exploration of human nature, blending uplifting and heartrending moments.

The narrative, set in 1963 San Francisco on the cusp of the Vietnam War, follows three young Marines on a final night of revelry, leading to unexpected encounters that challenge their perceptions of love and compassion.

Pip Mushin, the co-writer and co-director of the recent Australian musical Midnight, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming production, emphasising its potential to deliver a unique and emotionally charged experience for the audience.

The show is expected to reimagine traditional musical theatre aesthetics, incorporating original stylization and traditional Broadway forms to enhance the compelling narrative.

The live band accompanying Theatrical’s cast will perform material by the legendary composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, adding an extra layer of excitement to the production.

Lead performers Daniel Nieborski (Eddie) and Antoinette Davis (Rose) bring their collegiate-level musical theatre training to breathe life into the characters, supported by a talented ensemble cast.

Choreography by Adriana Pannuzzo (Midnight) and musical direction by Timothy John Wilson (Phantom of the Opera, Spring Awakening) further enhance the production’s creative team.

Dogfight, based on Nancy Savoca’s 1991 film, features an array of stunning vintage costumes and promises a rich storyline that explores the complexities of human relationships.

The not-for-profit and registered charity status of Theatrical, founded by former 3RRR radio personality and Executive Producer Andrew Gyopar, underlines the company’s commitment to combat social isolation.

Through theatre, Theatrical aims to encourage inclusion, social connections, and creative expression while promoting diversity and positive mental health and wellbeing.
